Typical GetUp propaganda, appealing to idealists and not people who care about real issues. What will becoming a Republic change? NOTHING. It's just a token gesture, nothing changes. If you're so concerned about Indigenous affairs, how about actually working to improve Indigenous life expectancy WITHOUT affirmative action? Why should someone be automatically eligible for government money based on race? It should be needs based, not race based.

Who likes the queen? Ask Aboriginal Australians what they think of the queen of England. Or perhaps ask some of our more recently arrived Australian citizens from Greece, Italy, China, Vietnam, Ireland or Lebanon, or any other immigrants who contribute to our modern society what relevance the queen of England has to them. If Australian society is to truly mature beyond it's current infant status, becoming a republic and appointing our own head of state is a vital and necessary step forward.
