Need Asian Americans Bone Marrow Donors

Dedicated to my friend Sheri Chin Co -- I have finally taken the plunge to register to be a bone marrow donor. Sheri is 43, my dear friend from high school. Today, she's a strong, brave mom -- facing this cancer head on. She's just finished the chemo treatments and those nasty cancer cells are dead. The next step is that she needs a bone marrow donor.

Additional Info on Joining the Registry

When you join the National Bone Marrow Registry through a local bone marrow drive, there is no cost involved. However, if you cannot make it to a drive and need to order the registration kit online, there's usually a cost involved. According to Be The Match website, this is because it costs about $100 to add a new member. This amount covers the cost of the testing needed to match donors to searching patients and related costs.

Since we are asking friends & families to join the registry, the hospital has given us a promo code that will save you $52 when you order the registration kit online. The code is hope4all. If you are registering online, please remember to use this code when you check out.




Private Testing

Some people have been asking whether it's possible to get tested as a potential match for Sheri only, without joining the national registry. It's been brought to our attention that this is possible through a private company. Obviously, a cost is involved in this private testing. If you are interested in this option, you may get more information at http://www.bonemarrowtest.com/.
