Two whole divisions of men to land behind heavily fortified enemy positions, separated from their allies by the mighty Rhine river and completely cut-off and surrounded... What could possibly go wrong?

  • All the members of "operation varsity" weren`t heroes... only "stay alived" in a failed plan thousands of men had to pay for...

You are right. More than 6000 men lost their live in this operation. The allied troops landed in an area full of intact german troops. This german units shot an enourmus number of allied parachutes like "slow doves". And 5 miles away there was no comparible defense by german troops ...

The British 1th Airborne ande the Polish brigade were dropped near Arnhem in 1944...not the 6th :-)

  • I'm suprised that there was anybody left in the British 6th airborne after Market/Garden?

  • I would like to add somthing positive to this, but can't seem to manage anything positive or civil! So I will just say...... BULL SHIT!!! This HUGE operation was never needed nor well planned and you can blame both sides for that, hell, they could have crossed almost anywhere and not have lost so many lives!
