kiraitu was murungi real getto. it is better not to say anything than say something that leads to nothing. smart leaders wait until they are sure about an issue before they start talking to the media. you can either say we have oil or say we do not have oil. you cannot have it both ways. there are alot of people who are keen on this issue. don't use it as a toy.

This title can be a bit misleading as China with its big thirst for fossil fuel and of late known to acquire large ASEAN energy corporations without blinking twice, don't waste time & resources on prospecting.. Bw. Kiraitu is there an oil for roads deal with made with china? Agood deal if they can tarmack the whole country....and more

I will NOT be surprised if there was not oil in Kenya. the relationship the westerners and British have with money and resources are like a shark and blood. If there was oil in Kenya I'm sure they would have found and invested ages ago. China... the mkoloni came, conqured and took all that he needed and left a pipeline that still sucking those resources. you are like......a few decades late but like we tell our visitors..JAMBO and KARIBU

I'm pretty sure Kenya will do superbly with the discovery of oil. After all, the country has been very very successful with agriculture, vast tourism potential and it's location as an economic and travel hub. Go Kenya.... like a kid in a toy store... what next? Nuclear energy? this is utter nonsense.

yeah he is full crude oil talk now...he could have had 10 Mile Solar Panels set up in Athi and RV plains to trap free electricity for the nation by now. 4.5 Billion can do that...and am sure WB would triple that fund.

President Kibaki, you are the only person who understands and can spell the word economics properly in your government. Please kindly sermon Kiraitu wa Murungi to your office, without tea, for a tutorial on the economics of energy and its application to Kenya. Tell him he is not just responsible for the availability of electricity and oil in urban centres. And he should ensure my rural grandmother is accessible to a stove that uses wood fuel efficiently, like the Chinese Wood Fuel Stoves.
The Kalenjins finally found out that a Kalenjin dictator/despot/corrupt leader called Moi was only interested in MOI and no matter how much they voted for him and tried to defend him, the Kalenjins remained poor. It is heartening to see that many Kikuyus are finding out too that a Kikuyu dictator/despot/corrupt leader called Kibaki is only interested in KIBAKI and that the vast majority of the Kikuyus for this reason shall also remain poor. Hope every Kenyan finds this out.

Experience suggests that oil bonanzas inflict nothing but harm on African countries. A tiny elite seizes the chance to enrich itself and virtually nothing trickles down to the poor.Meanwhile oil revenues distort the entire economy, discouraging genuine entrepreneurs and undermining every state institution. Civil war becomes more likely because the incentive to take over the country and steal its resources is all the greater
