Great approach and landing!!
I wonder if you can fly the final circle with autopilot maintaining the altitude/speed, or is it totally manual? I am only flying this in FSX :-)

Mostly the autothrottle is maintaining the airspeed. The other things you do yourself on a visual. I don't fly this plane but a B737NG so I'm not sure if it's the same ;)

Im from Madeira, it is quite a difficult runway to stop on, the pilots have to be on the brakes almost before they touch down. The runway used to be alot shorter.....many planes have fallen over....but air france was able to land one of their jumbo 747s there

you're right, and if they can't stop in time they fall from the bridge

MD114EVER, why did you say do a circular approach without losing altitude? In the video I see that the aircraft is descending..

And something else..do they only approach to rwy 05? What about rwy 23?

Thanx

Well, of course it is not a "circular" but "circling" approach. That means a visual final approach and landing after the initial instruments approach.
Of course, we descend from around 1000 ft (downwind) to airport level at touchdown.
And we use either runway 23 or 05 depending on the wind direction (and THAT can be a problem to determine in Funchal), but the 23 approach is not as interesting to show on Youtube (mainly a sidestep in final to avoid the proximity of the cliffs).

Interesting you should mention you are a commercial A330 pilot with American Airlines. AA doesn't have any A330s in their fleet mate.
