The most beautiful bus EVER designed! In this early '50s commercial the vw company is proud to present the shoebox shape vw transporter!
I especially like the last shot, when the camera reveils the WV 'station wagon' transporter.
This is a very funny commercial.

Are these Volkswagen buses, or "campers" as we sometimes called them "back in the day," still manufactured anywhere in the world? Or are the only ones available just old ones that have survived?
I see pictures of the VW buses that look brand, spanking new, and also saw one on an episode of the television series "That '70s Show," that belonged to the character "Michael Kelso" (as played by Ashton Kutcher). These bring back fond memories of how good-looking the VW vehicles really are/were.

Lets restore every kombi out there to save this legend.

They really should make a modern copy of this. Just scale it up a little but stay true to the original as possible. "Borrow" a de-fanged flat 6 from Porsche or mod it to a flat 4 and put it under the back seats to keep the floor low back there. All the marketing they'd ever need has already been done. The market's already there!

Actually the "Variant" or Squareback as it was called in the US was marketed as a sedan. The Bus was called a station wagon because A. VW did that in order to not pay higher truck importation fees and B. because at the time, the only competition in the US were station wagons, no other passenger vans existed until the VW copycats came along in the early 60's from Ford, Chevy and Dodge.
