Actually, a Bar in heraldry is horizontal, and can't be "sinister" which means "left" The term is actually Bend Sinister, a bend is a diagonal line, going from top right to bottom left (bending left), but for some reason the term Bar Sinister became more famous. But correct, it means bastard birth. But used, likely very happily by people liking a royal or noble connection albeit illegitimate. Lady Diana was from a bastard line from King Charles II.

I would watch this cartoon before going to school, I was in 2nd grade I remember it like it was yesterday. Sometimes my mom would make us leave early and I would get mad because I wanted to watch Underdog. One of my favorite cartoons growing up.
