Franklin Roosevelt's aggressive approach to the economy
helped pull the country out of the Great Depression. However, a few
years after he started his new spending policies, he gave into
Republican pressure and stopped. Things went south from there, forcing
him to restart these programs. Mike Papantonio of Air America's Ring of
Fire talks with author and columnist Jim Hightower about Obama's need to
be bolder and stronger than FDR was during the Depression.

  • Thank you. I hate hearing these revisionists claim the New Deal didn't work. My father always says the CCCs saved his life, as well as the country.

  • The corporate types and their willing foolish pawns want to see no safety net under society. To the pawns, this is a nasty form of spectator sport, sort of like the over amped Religious fanatics who so love to tell folks they are going to hell.

The CEO types want these programs and legacies gone because they want to be the port of last resort offering up hellish jobs at slave wages in a deal people won't be in a position to refuse.

They never change, they never are to be trusted.

  • He gave a broken down country HOPE again, he spent billions to put Americans back to work after the markets collapsed. He expanded government. Was called a Socialist a Communist, a Facist! H created Social Security, he was elected more terms then any other president Americans lined up to bid farewell along the tracks of his funeral train America wept he was a GREAT MAN A GREAT PRESIDENT he was FDR!

  • The new deal countrymen at the time sacreficed themselves for their children but today we are sacreficing our children for ourselves. WWII got us out of FDR's nine year Great Depression not spending money on mostly worthless liberal spending programs that were so socialist it would have ruined this country if not for WWII.

  • I guess they do have to educate those who are young about the new deal but I remember both my Mom and Dad talking about it and how that program built a new school in their little town and helped my Dad find work in the auto tire industry because guess what? They were building roads!!

  • Well we seen NAFTA in action how its grown into the WTO, Meanwhile jobs are like endangerd species. The streamlineing and downsizeing to the eventual i can employ ten people for what i use to pay one in America/Canada as well goes on unchallenged. When the Private Sector makes the laws and limits your election choices by controled media then you deserve the goverment you get. Oh I hear the Armys Still hireing. Complete with DU disability if you sign off on it.

  • TY for the political history lesson! Awesome video!! 5/5 faved!
