@railrdr523 not very big at all, some electric engines are high rpm, but they don't have to be,
for example the motor in a telsa roadster makes 280ish hp, and 200 ft lb of torque, it can be lifted quite easily by one man.
also its torque curve is pretty much flat from 0 - 6000 rpm

@railrdr523 electric is up there as well, probably a similar torque curve as a steam engine
@railrdr523 its true tho. the wheels had to spin as the steam fills so rapidly, the piston wont be stopped at all. you can park up against a wall and the steam will still push through no matter what.

Stanley's car set a speed record in 1906 or 08 but the record was at 127MPH.

On days where the dew point is low it wouldn't be much of an issue.
