Joshua Kerns, 21, of Ararat, Va was injured on 4/7/11 by an improvised explosive device (IED). He is a combat engineer on is third tour of duty in Afghanistan. He and other members of his unit stopped thier Hummer in order to conduct a mine sweep in a safety zone. We believe he was beginning to kneel down to work on the device when the blast occurred. He lost both of his legs from the knee down and lost his right arm from the elbow down. His left arm is broken in at least 2 places. He is currently in the hospital in Bethesda, MD. The Joshua B. Kerns benefit Fund was created to help the family with travel and related expenses while they are out of work and in Maryland with their son.
