Shine is a long time member of the Oregon Zoo's Asian elephant herd, and today she got to see Rose-Tu's new calf in the Elephant Barn. Shine makes a unique chirping sound when she gets excited which can be heard at the beginning of this video.

    Rose-tu was very cautious with letting the baby near Samudra, but she has no problem with her being close to Shine. She knows that Shine is a good Auntie and Samudra might not know how to act around a baby.

    Baby Lily is showing amazing trunk control. I think my little man Samudra's trunk was still flopping around like he didn't know quite what to do with the appendage. This one, though, she's got it figured out quite early.
