I stand corrected. I checked the liner notes on "Decade" and it says that Dr. John DID play on this song, not on "Burned". Funny thing is, you can barely hear the piano. Great song, just the same.

This was a phenomenal unreleased song. Neil had a better voice than given credit. I'm not so sure if Stephen Still was the leader of this band. It should have been Neil. He wrote better lyrics than Stills. They were great together though. Dueling harmonic dual lead guitars. No other band had so much talent including "The Byrds". Stills and Young could outplay any ofthe Byrds on guitar.

creepy number

This is one of Neil's best vocals--certainly duing his Springfield tenure. And "Down to the Wire" is a damn good song. That band had so much good music in the tank--both in performing and writing--it's just a shame it couldn't have lasted longer.

What a beauty of a tune!! Thank's for posting it. Gotta get me some of those funky side-burn's man !!!

Why the Springfield boys didn't release this, I will never know. Quite the gem!

Mac "Dr. John" Rebennack - piano. Jack Nitzsche - he's just everywhere including with Carrie Snodgress. The vanguard of so many '60s pop styles it's scary.. and I'm shakey stills though Neil is the genius.
I'm not sure Dr. John played on this song. He did, however, play on "Burned".

I thought the liner notes Young wrote for 'Decade' indicate this; have you been doing some independent research?
