Vince Hanneman has spent the last 21 years building the Cathedral of Junk. To merely visit the junk church is enlightening, but to touch it ~ to feel its creator's soul as you tear it down ~ is um... well go see for yourself, my friends.
Anyway, so the Cathedral is this three story structure in Vince's backyard in Austin, TX and he's made it open to the public for all to enjoy.
And they do.
Although the city of Austin has previously used images of The Cathedral of Junk for publicity, the city is now ordering Vince to bring the Cathedral up to city code or else it will be demolished.
Volunteers have been helping Vince break down parts of the Cathedral of Junk and then cleaning up the mess that leaves in order to bring the Cathedral up to code by the March 31, 2010 deadline.
This video shows some volunteers tearing down part of the Cathedral. The sort of peeps ya wanna be with when the sh*t goes down.
~ And it's all being done with smiles and love. ~
