This is the first launch of a simple Water Bottle Rocket. The Launcher was built using 1/2" PVC pipe and is powered by a small air compressor (although a tire pump would suffice). The launcher employs a friction-fit release mechanism said to release at approximately 35 psi thus being a safer alternative to those utilizing manual release mechanisms. A similar design can be found at the Jack Baskin School of Engineering, UC Santa Cruz. The rocket is simply an unmodified 2-liter A&W Root Beer bottle. Depending upon weather conditions, amount of propellant and angle of launch this rocket can achieve heights between 30 and 60 feet.
