I am a wildlife rehabilitator. This baby squirrel is just trying out its digging and hiding skills... but it definitely needs to keep fine tuning them. This squirrel has been successfully released back into the wild as an adult at this point.

  • I used to rehab animals in high school. Did my Eagle Scout protect for Nature's Nursery in Ohio. I miss raising squirrels. Although we took a lot more precaution not to interact with them after they started moving around on their own.

  • There seems to be differing opinions on how long to formula feed/interact with them. My group has found they will go wild at a later age and seem to have a better chance at survival if they are given longer in captivity to adjust. But I think all healthy wild squirrels returned to native habitats are success stories.

  • do people keep them as pets now ? lol

  • Some people do, but it takes a rare person to give them the space and attention they need to be happy, and a rare squirrel not to become aggressive once it is an adult.

  • lol. i dont think he was trying to hide it,

  • Baby squirrels "practice" hiding food much in the same way kittens "practice" pouncing. She was trying to hide it, but it was a playful act so she wasn't very serious about it. :)
