December 1, 2010 - The Faculty of Information (ie. the iSchool), in cooperation with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF), offers a student the opportunity to do a placement at the NMF's Centre of Memory to help with the design and development of a physical and virtual Mandela archives.
The 2010 NMF intern, second year archives and records management student, Lindsay Chick, shares her summer experiences working at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in South Africa. Lindsay describes her amazing summer experience interning for the Nelson Mandela Foundation's Centre of Memory in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Initiated in 2006, and supported by Manulife Financial since 2007, this Internship offers students at the Faculty of Information (University of Toronto) the chance to gain invaluable international work experience. Lindsay worked under the guidance of Archivist Verne Harris. Considered to be one of the leading postmodern thinkers of archival theory, Mr. Harris participated in a range of structures that transformed South Africa's apartheid public records system.
