I understand that. I'm a vocalist/musician myself, but wheather you are singing death metal, grindcore etc.. or blues/rock gospel (like myself) or Hungarian thrash polka, if you can't understand what they are singing you can't get anything out of it. I know different strokes for different folks. I was just stating my opinion. I'm a fan of heavy music. I'm 49, went to a LOT of concerts back in the day. I guess I'm just a old fart and don't "get' it.

That's one way to look at it.

But for me the types of vocals in Metal are singing and quite a formidable form of it too.

The difference is that metal vocalists aren't afraid to display vocal power and put more importance in true emotional expression than to make sure some lazy spoonfed non-reader is able to get every word.

Listen to operatic singing;many words aren't perceptible either but you wouldn't dare call it non-music.

Your vocal is an instrument. You don't necessarily have to sing in a song. Grunt/growls/screams are another vorm of using your vocals.
