@ButlerCollision thanks for the quick reply. To level out the existing paint with the "low" created from the paint chipped away, do you typically use body filler or glazing putty, or just primer surfacer to build the level up?

@MVC2FOELIFE If I welded something, I would grind it, apply a coat of fiberglass filler to seal the area, sand the filler and apply body filler to get you finised shape, then apply etch primer to metal areas only, last apply primer surfacer. If you have a lot of metal showing, I would apply epoxy or wash primer before applying primer surfacer. It is not recommended to apply etch primer before applying body filler.

can I first weld a spot repair.. then spray etching primer then can i use 80 grit and scratch it to apply body filler OR do i first just use my body filler and block it then apply my etchin primer on top of body filler and metal.. DOES BOTH WAYS WORK??

@Dosalt the epoxy is for the bare metal. However, you can spray it over your body filler too. Next, spray primer surfacer. You do not have to sand the epoxy before applying the surfacer, if you don't wait too long. If you wait past the window time, you will need to scuff epoxy before applying the surfacer. The surfacer is what will fill scratch and provide a good coating for sanding. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Donnie. Very good video

what kind of liquid do you use to clean the surface before painting?

@NIGHTRIDER995 This is a wax and grease remover. Any auto paint store should have it available in the brand they carry. Thanks for watching. You can learn more at CollisionBlast(dot)com

Hi Donnie, I have a 93 Lesabre where some areas of paint have chipped away and the gray e-coat is showing. Does the whole panel need to be taken down to the e-coat as well before painting? I have a feeling that once I start sanding that area, I will cause more paint to chip off which is fine, but should i just continue and take it all off, even on the areas where it does not chip off easily? (and perhaps fill in the lows with filler)? thanks!

@Amopower If the chips sand and feathers into the existing paint, then you should not have to strip the paint off. If the edge does not feather well it may be better to strip the paint.
