I looked into the mouth of the Pageton, West Virginia coal mine my grandfather worked in 100 years ago. The opening was partially blocked when the coal ran out. Only the sound of my footsteps broke the silence.

  • Im a coal miners daughter,sister,grandaughter & neice in West Virginia.I currently reside in B'ham AL but i luv my WV & KY Coal Miners .Their a special breed to do the job they do everyday&night.My oldest brother worked at the Sago mine an he wouldve been there but he was gone to take his bossin exam an he knew all of our fellow miners that didnt make it out. I had a special request done here in B'ham 4 our lost miner's.Its n our blood men & women alike we luv our coal minersGOD BLESS COALMINERS

  • God Bless you sir. I miss my second home called Whitby WV. The mines are reclaimed, and I know what you have felyt and seen there. My grandmas house is a very similiar thing now.
