Starting in November 2010, Colombia was hit by an extraordinarily severe rainy season. At least two million people have been affected by the heavy rains which continued through most of December and which caused flooding and landslides. The flooding has left thousands of people homeless and struggling to meet their basic needs, to find enough food, shelter and clean water for themselves and their families. In response to this situation, participants in the December 2010 Novena de Aguinaldo in Chicago, IL decided to raise funds to assist flood victims in the Bogota area. Fr. Joseph Jablonski, MSC, a member of the MSC community in Chicago, IL who spent over 20 years as a missionary in Colombia brought the proceeds with him on his Christmas trip to Bogota, Colombia and is using them to buy emergency food and supplies for families in the Bogota area who had been affected by the flooding. See what one of the recipients has to say by watching this short video. (Video is in Spanish).
