Youths, small holder farmers especially women took to the streets of Abuja in NIgeria, asking policy makers to invest more on small scale agriculture. They particularly asked for micro credits, extension services and farming implements to be made available so they can produce more and feed more people. Close to a thousand people took part in the rally that has officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agricultural Organisation in attendance. Did the government listen? I think they did because the very next week the Central Bank of Nigeria ordered two financial institutions in the country to immediately disburse the 100 billion naira deposited with it for agricultural purposes. But who are these credits targetting? Commercial farmers. So it is not yet uhuru for the poor farmers in Nigeria.
The youths asked for a reintroduction of school feeding programme so more children can go to schoo
The struggle continues!
