CHAN:
Tomorrow is the first day of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular tour. The Divine Performing Arts troupe brings to the stage the best in Chinese classical dance, music, and singing. Its performances celebrate the traditional arts and values of China, much of which has been lost over the past sixty years of communist rule.

The show will open in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States and tour approximately 70 cities across four continents before coming to a close in April in Canada. For its 2008-2009 tour, the Divine Performing Arts has a whole new repetoire. We have this story up next, about the anticipation people in Taiwan feel for the show, where it is set to arrive in February.

STORY:
The Divine Performing Art will perform in Taipei and six other cities in Taiwan in February. In Pintung City of Taiwan, a school principal has already bought 90 tickets for his students. After attending the show last year, he decided this year he should bring his students.

[Gou Dongzhou, Principal, Pintung City School]:
"The opening scene really impressed me. I thought the dancing performance and costumes were all fantastic."

Gou believes his students will benefit from watching the show, in the same way his teachers did last year.

[Gou Dongzhou, Principal, Pintung City School]:
"After watching it, teachers promoted morality in their teaching and seemed to have more enthusiasm for teaching moral issues. I think it encouraged a kind of spirituality in their teaching."

Moral education is an important part of the curriculum in Taiwan's schools. Gou believes the message underlying the Divine Performing Arts show is that one should respect God and strive to be a moral person, values that run deep in Chinese traditional culture. He says the show is effective at communicating these messages.

[Gou Dongzhou, Principal, Pintung City School]:
"The show touches people through the use of music, dance, and the content of the story. It is an effective way to express a message."
