It wasn't this scene that killed me, although it was heartbreaking. It was Kid going on to fall in love with that schoolteacher. Grrr. I could have accepted that one better if he'd realised at the end that she wasn't the girl for him and that he loved Lou, but instead he only broke up with her because she left town! Although, otherwise, that's one of my favourite episodes for how sweet Jimmy is in trying to cheer Lou up and the J/L ship.
