Maharishi University of Management (MUM) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, sciences, business, and humanities. The University is accredited through the doctoral level by the Higher Learning Commission.

Founded in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the University features Consciousness-Based education to develop students' inner potential. All students and faculty practice the Transcendental Meditation technique, which extensive published research has found boosts learning ability, improves brain functioning, and reduces stress.

Maharishi University uses the block system in which each student takes one course at a time. Students report they learn more without the stress of taking 4-5 courses at once.

The University has a strong focus on sustainability and natural health, and serves organic vegetarian meals. The B.S. in Sustainable Living is MUM's most popular undergraduate major.

The teacher has been trained to select the correct sound (mantra) as part of the personal instruction.

i don't agree, the goal is not the teaching itself, it is a vehicle, a medium, of transferring altruistic feelings that empower others to experience bliss and be compassionate as well.

This teaching is the communication of one enlightened entity to another entity how to join him/her on that elevated plane, fueled by motivations of selflessness, compassion and altruism.

teaching is the means, the road, to get to that place.

    imagine:

you are a creature whom has attained perfect bliss and happiness, by transcending the self, isn't it pure logic and compassion that this person wants to share his method of achieving this.

If a person would reach this state of mind and doesn't want to share it with other people so that they can attain the same state, this person isn't really enlightened at all.

other techniques do have other specific benefits, be it concentration, compassion or reduced stress.

    May2013:

According to the American Heart Association, 'the Transcendental Meditation technique is the only meditation practice that has been shown to lower blood pressure. All other meditation techniques received a 'Class III, no benefit.

Thus, other meditation techniques are not recommended in clinical practice to lower blood pressure' (and thereby reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke etc) according to the American Heart Association study.

Why teach anything? When you know something or know how to do something, you (some people anyway, ie teachers) teach others that thing. I'm fairly certain it can be said of most teachers that teaching is not a means to another goal, it is the goal. So why does he teach this? To teach this.
