Exploring historical objects and the stories behind them, HISTORY DETECTIVES crisscrosses the country, delving into legends, folklore and personal histories to discover potentially extraordinary objects in everyday American homes, cities and small towns.
The critically acclaimed and popular series returns to PBS for a fifth season beginning Monday, June 25, 2007, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings).
HISTORY DETECTIVES combines the latest forensic technology with old-fashioned, pavement-pounding detective work. The show is hosted by four inquisitive fact-finders: Wesley Cowan, independent appraiser and auctioneer; Elyse Luray, an independent appraiser and expert in art history; Gwendolyn Wright, professor of architecture, Columbia University; and Tukufu Zuberi, professor of sociology and the director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. This is an excellent show, but the young woman, Elyse Luray, has an annoying habit of screwing up on facts, or just coming across as ignorant. Everybody else is just great
