They were out of luck on the beer thing, as I don't often drink that. They did find a nice load of vegetables that were somehow left right within their reach.

They can't let out the 'gas' (it's a liquid, actually, an oily mix of sulphur compounds. These were de-scented at the farm when they were about 4 weeks old. These are domestic skunks, rather than wild skunks.

I have skunks as pets because I'm allergic to cats, and dogs, and birds, and I'm well past the phase where tropical fish amused me. That, and I'm probably crazy.

They chew with their mouths open too! Such manners! They're so smart and so much fun, but you have to skunk-proof your home to try to keep them out of trouble. Only had one who climbed, and that one is Professor Moriarty.
