Ballaghaderreen - Old Swimming Pool, Reservoir, now abandoned...

Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon. A place called Lung, outside the town, through a field; an old swimming pool, previously a reservoir. Used for swimming until the 1980s, maybe later. May have been a little unsafe - sloped sides, not sure what the lifeguard policy was.

Includes entertaining period graffiti by F. McHugh. A. Lynch, G. Kane and M. Linnane (who appears to have typo'd his own name). There is also a puzzling reference to J. Cunniffe's sausage making skills. There is a butcher by that name in Ballaghaderreen.

@surlisboy Driving out of Ballaghaderreen on the Dublin Road, there is a little lay-by on the left hand side with a river under the road beside it. The pools are at the end of the water on the lay-by side of the road. You have to go through a field to get to them...

I remember this pool in the early 70s wow so many memories,this was the place to hang-out,it sure as hell did not look like this though.If you could survive and swim this pool you could swim anywhere.The river flowed straight into the pool and it was cold as hell.I see the kiddie pool also.Cunniffes sausages were pretty good and i bet it was James that tagged the wall.Thanks for the video,great stuff.Coleman US via Banada
