A Juxtapositioning of my recent spearfishing at Kaena Point, Oahu and Mike Savage giving a talk on "The Sale begins when the customer says NO".
I started the afternoon hiking with all the gear about 2 miles toward the Point, trying to get isolated from all other fishing. Did not find a good place to enter (sharp, very sharp rocks), so I had to hike it back to get in water.

I tried a new trick (for me) to lure in Parrot Fish (or "Uhu", they are absolutely Delicious Eatz)...
Parrot Fish are coral eaters and their excrements is the sand of Hawaiian Islands. They get territorial, and that is an exploitable trait. Start Tossing Sand around, and they wanna see "who's messin' with my reef". I made the mistake of not minimising my optical "signature" (didn't hide enough to make look smaller), so they inspect and run as they get intimidated....."Make yourself smaller, get tight against rock".

The MIke Savage audio track speaks for itself.....hope you enjoy and find wisdom in it, whether you like or not "The Savage".

BTW, it just occurred to me that I never take a wild or hap-hazard (unsure) shot at fish. For me to pull trigger, the target must have been properly acquired (tracked to "closest point of approach") with positve "GUN CONTROL"....meaning, I am in complete control of my gun at all times!!!

UPDATE 3FEB2010---

Mike Savage is OUT, he is a loose cannon. Sometimes, he is wise and educational, as in this track.

OTHER TIMES, he is outright VENOMOUS... I am unsubbing from several Savage dedicated sites... I am done with MS (he has pissed me off for the last time).

  • Yeah, after I speared a Stingray and it drug me around for 20 minutes I was a lot more careful about what I shot and where I shot it.

I guess a Tuna or a big Grouper could take you all the way to Tahiti if you missed a vital spot and hung on.

  • @hammerogod LOL.....yeah, it pays to be mindful of "what to shoot" and "where".

  • dont bring this downtown shit below the surface, keep the above the surface shit up there where it belongs. i know what your saying, but, the beauty of below is to leave all that shit up there. and one more thing, spearing the tiny fish did'nt help your cause

  • @fullchoke77 Pump da Brakes......first off, dat little fish is tasty...secondly the point of the video is to mix it up (in your words "above surface" and "below")... The two mix, if you ain't got it topside, you ain't gettin' below!

finally, I got no cause....so da little fish was a nice snack, and that's all I got that day (my failure or not, part of the title).

  • does anyone know who this talker is, hes great and right lol

  • @charlie000111 Mike Savage, major radio talk show guy in US......G'day, UC

  • He's a talker because that's his job lol.

You need talkers in a society to inspire ideas. I think he had a point to an extreme degree. But nonetheless, the information was invaluable to me.

  • first time i watched this i was at work and couldn't hear the audio (i work at a bar). i watched it about two days later and listened to the commentary, and I must say that is one hell of a lecture and i certainly do agree. persistence is the key to success.
