Mintaka is a not-for-profit foundation based in Geneva. Placed under Swiss government surveillance and officially recognized as "of public value", it seeks to put modern biomedical research at the service of populations of developing countries.
Their current projects are listed below:
MICROBICIDES
Empowering women and girls in developing countries to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS by ways that they control.
PREVENTING DEATH IN CHILDBIRTH
In sub-saharan Africa, one woman in 16 ends her life in childbirth. The drug of choice in fatal haemorrage is rapidly destroyed in hot climates, but could be stabilized.
HIV/AIDS INFECTED CHILDREN
Little exists to treat the millions of infected children in low-income countries because so few children are affected in rich countries.
ANTI-HIV VACCINES
Recent data on the structure of the virus suggest new routes to engineering a truly effective vaccine.
P. vivax MALARIA
The neglected cousin that kills by attrition
