Hamlet's first soliloquy, in Act I, Scene 2 of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hamlet is played here by Patrick Alparone; this is a scene taken from "This is Hamlet," a new way to learn more about one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies. Find out more at http://thisishamlet.com

  • I'd rather see the emotion and have an American actor speaking with their regular accent than doing a really bad British one.

  • this suck strata up

  • Deliverance is a little 'Hayden Christensen.'

  • he seems to be reading. is he? it would not be a problem, though, but the thing is that this is not told in the info. section. one would assume that if it is not written in there, he is not reading. and that would be fine, but the problem is obvious: it seems like he is. now, i`m not pointing fingers, but i think it is relevant to know that because of the camera angle and the fixed eyes. so, the question remains: is he?

  • Nice job though. it's a pretty decent adaptation in all fairness

  • i think it's a bit harsh to say it's terrible. And he's not overacting, he's performing it as if it were on stage. you compare it with Branagh, his expression is very minimal because filming allows for picking up minute facial expression. if this were at the globe, it'd be how it were played, so even audience further back can recognise it. as for the accent, i'm inclined to agree Shakespeare must be spoken in Standard English. Tennant changes his Scottish accent to SE. just feels right that way.

  • @WarriorQueen2 *Americans

  • "Blah, blah, American's suck." Go take a flying leap, would you? Post a video of your own performance and let's see how good you do. I commend anyone who takes on the role of Hamlet. Everyone else can shut their rank gobs.

  • @FleetingProductions I'm American and certainly don't take the piss. What I have learned form my British about acting Shakespeare is immeasurable.

  • He's playing one mood and attitude: petulance, and it overshadows the content of what Hamlet is saying.
