James Hetfield in an interview with Anders Lundin and performing "Mama Said" in SVT's "Sverige-Sovjet" in 1996.

People keep claiming the only time he ever performed "Mama Said" was on Later with Jools Holland, so I decided to dig up an old VHS. This was on Swedish public TV that same week and, in my opinion, it's a much better performance of the song!

  • @DANIOxMETINxD Huh?

  • Öh, "Metallica, the band who in the early 80:s did ONE great hit. Now Metallica's James Hetfield is doing his COMEBACK with his own COUNTRY project in Anders Lundins late thuesday 23.35 show.

  • @nofish6 What the hell are you talking about? They didn't have a single hit in the early to mid eighties. The first "hit" they had was "One" in 1988. Their biggest hit was "Enter Sandman" in 1991, among others from that album; "Nothing Else Matters", "The Unforgiven", etc.

Hehe, I meant it like a "how it could have ended up if..."-scenario. This video kind of give me those vibes.

Believ me, I love every single Metallica-album. But I can not understand why James Hetfield, lead singer of the world's biggest rock band, would like to participate in a Swedish budget talk show like this.

  • @nofish6 Oh... Well, what makes it even weirder, then is: wasn't Christian Luuk's show up and running at this time?

  • @buoghuoj Tyvärr är det väl så "Svensson" ser på hårdrockare. "I thought it sounds very dangerous and dark", ja när vardagslyssnandet begränsas till Thomas Ledin och Magnus Uggla låter väl Green Day "dangerous and dark"...

  • this peformance of mama said is better than Jools Halland, great stuff, wish i could hear more of this live
