Hey i was there 5 years ago my brother was a monk there its verry beautiful and Unique place i think this is heaven on earth i wish i could stay there for ever

The monastery is very lovely. Valaam (or Valamo in Finnish language) islands in Lake Ladoga belonged to Finland before the war. In 1940 Valamo was bombed heavily and the monastery was decided to evacuate. All the monks and the treasures were transported into Keitele and later to Heinävesi in Finland. In Heinävesi there is New-Valaam monastery ever since. In this so called old Valaam there are only a few original icons left the rest are copies, very good ones though.
