Annecy

The old section of Annecy has several small canals running through it and a main street lined with ancient buildings and sidewalks covered by sheltered arcades dating back to the Middle Ages. The Thiou Canal has quays, or walkways, that run along it, with quaint old colorful buildings like paintings that has come to life. No wonder artists and photographers love to capture this beautiful scene. Annecy is especially wonderful on Sunday mornings when a big outdoor market opens along the main street of the old district. Sheltered in these medieval arcades, you can imagine this market is going on today in pretty much the same way it has for the last 500 years.
