This is an exceptionally powerful speech by Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May to an overflow crowd of more than 1000 people at the Countdown to Copenhagen Climate Rally and Info Night in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on November 17, 2009. This was the largest indoor rally in Victoria in over a decade.The speech will go down in history as one of the finest speeches ever given about climate change.

Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet, all of you.

@FriendlyUCKids The reason CO kills you is because blood cells accept CO more readily than oxyegen, and you die basically because your blood suffocates. I didn't say Benzine was a greenhouse gas either. What's the point in arguing if you don't listen to what I say?? Go back to school. Quit playing video games.

@bluejetty01 too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doesn't allow the infrared radiation to leave the earth, therefore heating the earth up. also, CO2 may not be toxic, but CO is and it's made out of the same things. doesn't matter. and yeah CO2 helps plant growth because it uses it in photosynthesis. and they focus on CO2 because the larger emissions are from cars. greenhouse gases are what politicians are getting at because it's important. benzine isn't a greenhouse gas. learn your shit.

CO2 = Carbon Dioxide C = Carbon O2 = Oxegen. NOT POLLUTION - ask someone who works in a greenhouse how they use CO2 and for it increases plant growth which leads to more food and more building materials.

Human actions do however release alot of pollution into the environment - Benzine, Arsnic, Asbestos, Sodium Flouride,  metal particles from manufacturing, nuclear radiation, and many more... but the politicians focus of CO2, something that you exhale.... hmmm you ever exhale benzine?

@bluejetty01 CO2 is pollution. we do exhale it, as waste. yes nitrous oxide is bad as well but CO2 definitely is harmful to the environment and needs to be reduced whether or not we exhale it. earth wasn't made for humans. humans were just evolved on earth and happened to use CO2 as a waste product in cellular respiration but when the first animals to use cellular respiration evolved, they weren't expecting hummers and other vehicles to exist.

I see nothing but carbon Nazis. What they want is death by DE-industrializing us and sending us back to the dark ages. Are you green followers ready to deprive your children from knowing what a tropical fruit tastes like? Deprive your children of everything you had? You mislead fluoride head fools. CO2 is one of the elements of life and don't tell me to much CO2 is no good because you don't know how much is to much id10t. The CO2 tax means the end of civil liberties, breathing will be a crime.

I do agree with bluejetty also, however i just voted Green today. Minus the Co2 issue, Green Party are the civil liberaties party, they get most issues right. Less Nato involvement also, less goverenment in our lives.... lets take it back to classical liberalism and libertarianism.
