First. You should read that little notebook that comes with the game..
Second. Press Ctrl(hold) + left mouse button to erase walls and other stuff.

Does anyone know how to erase walls/stairs/rails if you make a mistake? I cant figure it out. Thanks!

There is a square wall box that you can use to make even sqaure walls, that might help you some
