Natalie Dessay: "Tiger! Wetze nur die Klauen"

Natalie Dessay sings the stunning aria "Tiger! Wetze nur die Klauen" from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unfinished opera, Zaide (K344). It's in g minor and follows a splendidly-crafted sonata-allegro form.

This is from her 2001 album, Mozart Heroines. Louis Langrée conducts the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

I LOVE Damrau in this aria. Her audible breaths, incredible expressive singing, and splendid ornamentation in the recapitulation adds an emotional edge to the piece. However, I love Dessay's controlled tone and flawless technique. Damrau's low notes are also amazingly strong! Dessay's lower register sometimes get lost amidst the orchestra.

However, I love both of them (though I love Dessay more!), as singers and in this aria. I think both renditions are excellent, but in very different ways.

This is from a really nice album (Mozart Heroines). My favorite from it is Ascanio in Alba.

@mikica563 I like Damrau much better in something feisty like "Tiger" too...I think Dessay should have recorded "Ach ich liebte" instead of this aria...she's splendid in that one :)
