Reading the debates between Lincoln and the southern slavery advocates is an eye-opener. The defenders of slavery called their opponents socialists and communists and made their arguments using the bible and the constitution, while Lincoln had to use the declaration of independence. The conflict between the rights of states and the federal government always bothered the founders, and it bothers me too, because in theory I believe in decentralized democracy. We still haven't resolved it.

@dsglop We supported both of them. the 14th amendment affirms that all men are created equal and have equal rights endowed by our creator, the 2nd amendment protects those principles from leftistsAnd others.

What I really enjoy is the "I'm fighting for the Constitution!" people's argument against the 14th amendment of "the Founding Fathers didn't imagine people coming here just have a baby and take advantage of our welfare state". These people are the same ones who fight hard to preserve the second amendment using the ol' "it's in the Constitution!" argument. Well, did the Founding Fathers imagine gangs running wild and gunning people down?

Nice work and well done.

@rhcp800 screw this world
Yes we are a constitutional republic. Not a Democracy. Democracy is the dictatorship of 51% enlsaving/murdering the other 49%. The KKK in the south practiced it and the majority voted to curb the rights of african americans and segregate them. The southerners were Democrats BTW
slavery was only made possible because of the first gun control laws banning their ownership among freeblacks and slaves so they couldnt fight back. On top of that, liberals like you prevented John Brown from ending it

@calstategop yeah, they were an opposing faction of the democratic party called the dixiecrats that actually walked, talked and acted like a republican, and actually some of them got fed up with the party and joined the republicans. the KKK and other groups are inherently right-winged and i wouldnt say that a liberal is right-winged, would you? i'm glad the dixiecrats are gone, and i'm glad that some defected to your party. prime example, strom thurmond.
