Traditional Center-feed clarifiers are the most popular among various different clarifier design alternatives due primary to their axisymmetric flow pattern and long distance between tank influent and effluent. However, a center-feed clarifier naturally generates strong influent jets due to its small center-feed area in a circular clarifier tank.
The intensive center influent often brings significant turbulence into the downstream settling compartment, especially under high flow conditions (Hydrosims, March 2010).
