Ira Boshnack of Environmental Water Treatment Services explains the equipment and functions of a top-of-the-line whole house water treatment system for well water.
This particular installation was done in Loxahatchee Florida, where government agencies are currently investigating cancer clusters believed to be caused by contaminated well water.
@watermanAndy PVC pipe needs to be painted with acrylic or latex paint when in outdoor use under high sunlight. However that is not something im to worried about, the white plastic tank outdoor is a horrible idea as it really promotes algae growth. I know everyone puts their water treatment equipment outside in south florida, its nice because it saves space in the home. It's a really shitty way protect an high investment. and should be advised against by a proper sales/installer person.

@se7ensnakes On the Hurricane question: The equipment is very heavy, since it's filled with water, and will not blow away. If a Hurricane is so severe as to knock over a piece or two of this equipment, you can usually just stand it back up and replace any broken pipes. This what I did when Charlie hit Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte in 2004. The real damage was to screened pool areas, and many roofs coming off the houses.

@xjdubber All materials used are UV protected, and commonly used in outside installations in South Florida and other warm weather areas. The white also helps reflect the hot sunlight, and minimizes the heating factor of the sun. And the processes used by Ira in the video are state of the art. Water treatment is very basic, and he is just using multiple "stages" to make the water pure. The same "stages" are used by most large Utilities companies ( on larger scale ) here in South Florida too.

@rasctwa The ion exchange process of the water softener removes positively charges minerals and metals from the water, that includes radioactive elements that are sometimes ( rare ) in ground water. The Aerator process allows Radon gas to escape from the water ( rare, but is a problem in some areas ). And the Reverse Osmosis process will reject and remove 99.5% of whatever else is in the water that is not purely two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen ( H2O ). Ira was telling the truth.

Good job Ira. Sorry to see all the negative comments by people who know so little about water treatment and how equipment is installed outdoors in South Florida. With the space you had to work with, I think you did a good job. It looks like a $ 10,000 installation, and it will provide the best water money can buy. It's a good think most people do not require the removal of hydrogen sulfide, radon, tannins, hardness, sand, iron, and high TDS ( total dissolved solids ).

@scottadowns I need help lol. My mother in law doesn't have a water filtration system running right now. It's just straight well water and she has my sister in law's kids living here constantly getting sick from it. I don't have any idea about this kind of thing because I've only had city water. What would we need to get and what would be the cheapest way to go about it? We don't have alot of money. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

1) how often do these things need to be replace / cleaned? 2)If a hurricane comes along...will it tear off everything you have there? 3) How much does all this cost?
