You think a doctor did something wrong during your surgery and now, four years later you want to bring a lawsuit in New York? Can you still do it? Is it still timely?

In NY, there are strict time limits in which you have to bring a medical negligence case, also known as a medical malpractice case.

To answer the question of whether it would still be timely I'd need to know whether this was a private doctor or private hospital. Is this a doctor who worked at a municipal hospital such as Jacobi or Kings County hospital?

I would need to know whether this involved claims of a child being injured or whether it involved injuries that happened at birth. There are even different time limits to bring a claim against a State-owned hospital.
