If you want for your printed slides to have an area for notes on the side, you need your slides to be printed out as handouts. Having the slides prepared click on the Office button and choose "Print" from the menu. Click on "Print" from the right handed menu and notice a new window appear. From there under the section "Print what" click on the small down-facing arrow and choose "Handouts". Now next under the right handed section called "Handouts" determine the number of slides to be printed out per page. Choosing 3 from the selection menu visually shows you that the area for notes is created on the page alongside with the slides. Click on "OK" if you are satisfied with your selections.
