Englishtenor, where have you been? And why the comparising? Peter was the perfect Lohengrin, I saw him in San Francisco singing this part, and the audience was stunned, me included. There was no one who personified the typical Germanic hero than Peter with his perfect looks. Now he is a sick man and dealing with a cruel illness. I'll never forget the joy he brought so many years ago.

Is that Peter Hoffmann? Don't remember him being so great...Good looking as well! He looks like Rutger Hauer in Bladerunner...

I remember him, when he was trying to sing Faust in Lubeck (1973 ?) and I felt so sorry for him, as he was trying to sing a role that did not fit his voice and was very scare at the aria, as he had no high C and only way to do it was in falsetto, but was very unhappy, later on he went to Wuppertal where he began his big career as a Wagnerian tenor, -even if his voice was too lyric, but his looks was the big plus. A very nice person and I will remember him as that and a very good singer. C.M.

Still the best looking Lohengrin ever: Peter Hofmann. Although Jonas Kaufmann is very handsome as well. Hofmann not only looks great, he was one of the leading Wagner-tenors of his time. Too bad his career was cut short by illness.

Let me say - there are many GOOD Lohengrin's, Domingo, Kaufmann included.

The PERFECT Lohengrin, however, is Peter Hofmann.

Peter Hofmann schickt alle manirierten Versuche der "neuzeitlichen Lohengrine", die "Erzählung" in irgendeiner Weise zu überhöhen und überzuinterpretieren, ad absurdum. Es gibt keinen, der mit so wenig Gesangstechnik über Jahre die Botschaft des Gralsritters an den großen Opernhäusern in der Welt derart eindringlich intonierte (obgleich seine Intonation nicht immer von Trübungen befreit war).
