those instrument are much more ancient than 'guitars' and are called tanpuras, they are not solo instruments by the way!

she is truly a living legend. I had attended a house concert in varanasi about 30+ years ago and she also sang there. I still remember that evening very vividly. And, I just happened to meet her again at Lucknow airport. Touched her feet and got blessings from her.......... Ishwar aap ko lambi aayu de....

There is something in Girija Devi's performance that stirs the soul, its difficult to explain but haunts you long afterwards! Truely it reminds one of God.
