This team is truly something special. In my opinion they skated well enough to defend their Olympic gold medal here in Lillehammer.

I agree. I remember watching this and thinking that they were impossible to beat. They won gold in my opinion.

Whoa, they were SOOOOO close on the SBS spins (1:30)! Overall, I think this was one of their best performances as amateurs (along w/ the their FS at 1991 Worlds). They are the best example of the Leningrad school of skating--certainly more "human" than the Moscow pairs.

I'm so glad there are youtube clips of this amazing pair. I remember being so upset when they lost unfairly to G&G in 1994. M&D had everything and were so perfect in 94. And, yes, Scott Hamilton was so freaking annoying with his unnecessary gush over G&G. Completely biased, it seemed. Well, atleast M&D had the standing ovation.

Yea well, the fact of the matter is that it was so improvised that you obviously didn't realize it was a fall until somebody pointed it out to you. The fact that Artur made it look as if it were planned shows you just how great a skater he is. IMO the gold could have gone to either pair... they were both great... I would have hated to have been judging this event.... I would have been torn.

Ooops, I spoke too soon, folks. Arthur D. had a FALL at the end of the program. 2nd place justified. (or 3rd/4th even). 1st- G&G.

This skating was really wonderful! They are on the same level of the skill as the great ballet dancers of the Bolshoy Theater. They would have had gold medals in Lillehammer.
