Severe turbulence during final approach to Zurich (ZRH/LSZH)

Filmed from the flight-deck jumpseat during the very stormy days in Jan07. Note the autopilot coming off at 00:06 and the pilot's EXTREME rudder-movements at 00:26. This was one bumpy ride :-))

Severe Turbulence: large, abrupt changes in altitude/attitude, large variations in airspeed, aircraft may be momentarily out of control. Occupants are forced violently against straps, unsecured objects disappear, walking is impossible.

IMO This looks more like a stabilized approach to me. Extreme control movements are when the control hits the stops and you still need more....

It is rare. The flight I mentioned was a once in a lifetime occurrence. I've had bumpy flights since then but nothing that extreme.
