SLAM Tuesday Week 4 - "Enough Already"

So every week I get together with a few friends (virtually and/or IRL) and write prompted, 15-minute "slam" poems. We're not very good yet/ever, but it's a whole lot of fun and a great way to get the creative juices rolling!

Just stop what you're doing -
just stop what you're doing right there, young lady,
before you take one more mistake of a step
crushing humanity like a vice
one finger-tap at a time.

Pretty sure I was walking here,
minding my own thought process
turning the Sun's rays into Vitamin D
days of no iPhones or Blackberrys or Palm Pilots,
and what have you
before you almost ran me over.

Hi! How are you doing today?
It is SO nice to see you, and
I can actually see you because my face is in the clouds
and not in clickity-clack sweaty palms of radio-wave plastic.

I don't think the problem is communication,
rather, it's the desire to communicate immediately.

Parties can wait.
E-mail and weather reports can wait.
Friendship requests and buying that shirt you love from Forever 21
and "oh my gosh did you see his ________________"
can wait till you get your act together
and get wherever you're going
which,
judging by the looks of it,
is the bagel shop where you're just learning
how to read the menu.

oh. my. goddddddddd.

But here you are,
Thump, thump.
Thump, thump
mindlessly clogging up the heated stones,
cheeks flapping,
Dela-
ware.
Dela-
ware.
Former lives of cows and sheep
binding your tiny feet like a Chinese princess.

And princes, you're not in the clear here, either
let's be very clear about that

Everyone's got that need to connect
but I like to take that to a new zone of constant respect
for all planet-kind.
So take a breather from the device, bro,
no homo,
but do me a 3-states-of-matter SOLID
and look around once or twice.
That glance that you're so eager to hide behind
a plastic screen
just might change somebody's day
for the better.

And for that,
I thank you.
