This is a 43" diameter water parabola lens that can reach in excess of 1,000f The water lens is running at about 80% of maximum power. The water needs to be distilled, rain or R/O for maximum power. I used well water to demonstrate that it will work with groundwater. The popcorn was filmed with a Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1. Main video Canon canon XH A1 Last siphon scene Canon 7d

  • Hey Dan,

At the end of the video, I heard you say you were curious about what 2 or 3 inches of rain would do to it. Simple calculation actually. 1 inch of rain will produce 625 gallons of water per 1000 square feet of area. I can't tell how big of an area the sheeting is on the flat above you. Assuming the area of plastic above you is 8'x8', then 64/1000 x 625 gallons = 40 gallons per inch of rain. If you're expecting 3" of rain, be careful! That is too expensive to rip.

    Take care!

    Mick

  • @TheMick26 Good math. We got 1" and it filled it beyond what I had in this video.

  • Hi What sort of temps are you getting at the focus point Cheers Kiwihydroman

  • Have you tried a clear shower curtain? I also think it would be better to melt salt in a chamber made from paint cans and insulating brick or rock. If you can melt the salt transfer the heat through copper plumbing to a Stirling engine generator. This would allow you to store the energy for short periods of time.

  • 4:56 Love the porno music in background as popcorn pops!

  • @mancamiatipoola I am not talking about this specific device Dan has built. I am talking about the concept of using water to focus light, cheaper than molding glass. The water doesn't have to be safe to drink, just clear of particulate matter such as dirt and debris, which can be easily filtered through a sand/charcoal DIY filter. The plastic sheet doesn't have to come from the country. And it will cook for more than 1 hr...The point is that it is cheap. Mobile. and DIY friendly.

  • @chessdude3

Dude, in underdeveloped countries they can't even spell "polyethylene" much less procure a nice clear sheet at the local hardware store. As for clean water... when is the last time u drank clear water from the tap in an "underdeveloped country"? I live in one and believe me, u don't wanna drink water from the tap it's so dirty... And u only get like half an hour of focus point ON a clear day. Are pple supposed to cook their food from 12-13 only? Change the world, my ass.

  • @mancamiatipoola Precisely opposite. This "waste of time and resources" can be used in underdeveloped countries where they don't have electricity, and are stripping their resources of wood for fire burning. This offers a simple yet effective way of creating 1000F heat. As Dan said, it can be used with ground water, and any water with no particulate matter in it. With some modifications, a collapsible structure, shorter focal length, and removing the excess material, this can change the world.

  • HAVE YOU CONSIDERED SANDWICHING 2 SHEETS OF POLLY-CARBONATE TOGETHER & FILLING WITH WATER?

  • This is soo cool! Who would have thought you could cook like this, but was it your intention to make the popcorn popping so sensual? ROFLMAO!

  • 5:00 get the butter/coconut, realsalt. com, nutritional yeast ready... solar popcorn, get your solar popcorn.

Chemtrails overhead have atomized particles of barium, strontium, among other things, this is Some of the same material kicked out by fukushima. Leuren Moret confirms this. A real good iodine a available at worldhealthmall. com Its nana size structure is same technology nasa uses to give astronauts vital nutrition. Sri Krsna Chaitanya

  • perhaps you could simply double up (fold over upon itself) the material? it appears the sheet you have has a lot of extra material... that would effectively double the strength and should only impact transparence by about 2-3%

    Love your vids!

  • That's an interesting piece, Dan.

Some things we discover, or uses for what we find when we merely relax a bit and "play" with an idea might not otherwise be evident or discovered. What were your expectations & results (beyond the obvious)? You didn't give temperatures reached in this, or time to achieve them. Using the water from it for a shower would be great for camping if the time to heat is short enough. Thanks.
