Moons Moat is the site of a 12th century medieval moated homestead which is located in Redditch, Worcestershire, where I live. The site is well known to be haunted by the ghost of Lady Mohun (Mohun being the old English word for Moon, which is where the place gets its name from). According to local folklore, Lady Mohun is said to appear once every year, on the eve of St Agnes (21st January).
Not much remains now of the original homestead but the moat has remained and hasn't changed since the 18th century. Sometimes if there is a hot summer, the moat dries out and it's possible to walk across to the island, however it's so overgrown with trees, brambles and nettles that's virtually impossible to get very far onto it. The entire site is now a scheduled monument and protected heritage site.
The pictures at the start of the video were taken by me in January 2009 which I think is the best time to see the moat when the trees are bare (and it's the right time for seeing the ghost too!). I shot some video this summer which you can see at the end to see how the moat looks in summer.
