  • Imagine the kids that otherwise would have a Mother and a Father, but because society doesn't have an ideal of marriage, because it's cheapened marriage and just made it about sex between two consenting adults and not about what's best for kids.

For some reason the 'separate but not equal' worked when thinking about adults, but it never dawned on the electorate to think about kids being seperated from the chance at either having a mom or a dad.

  • what is going wrong in your life because of gays getting married? how are YOU being affected?

  • What is going wrong in your life because someone's storing nuclear waste somewhere?

You see something need not concern myself at all for me to be concerned with it, if it effects humanity in the future I have as much right as anything to be concerned with it. And it would be a hard argument to defend to say that altering a key component of the foundational unit of society will not have broad and deep impacts on humanity.

  • don't you DARE compare PEOPLE to nuclear WASTE. the world is not going to turn gay simply because you are allowing gay marriage. You're acting as if gays are toxic waste that are going to infect the earth. okay, WHY are gays bad? WHY do you think they are screwing up the "foundational unit of society?"

  • Love it!

  • I agree with the person below me. The government should just get rid of the word marriage all together. Marriage was created for religion and should not be a legal right granted by government; the government should only be able to grant civil unions.

  • i can hardly understand what you're saying since you're obviously trying to look intelligent, but i can derive from that to say: I have already explained why this should be one ideal the society SHOULD "mandate."

  • The outlaw divorce argument is misguided logic, it's akin to saying 'why don't you put regulators on all motorized vehicles if you're against people being injured in or by them?

You see one need not mandate something to justify holding to it as an ideal. Society is in it's perfect right to have some ideals that it fosters but doesn't mandate. Such is the case with marriage and it's distinction from other unions.

  • Here's my thoughts on the matter.Take it for what it's worth:

All nonreligious marriages (hetero and gay) should be considered civil unions with all of the rights and pivileges of marriage but without the loaded "m" word.

Churches, synagogues, mosques, and whatever your favourite cult chooses to call its place of worship would be free to deny marriage to whomever as they already are (divorced Catholics can't remarry in the RCC,for instance),but it would be fair to all regardless of sexuality.

  • Then why don't you outlaw divorce? Single-parented families are FAR worse off than same sex families. Plus, when the kids grow up, they won't know the difference if they've grown up in that household since birth.

  • You need to awake & see that marriage isn't just about love between two consenting adults, it's about love sufficient for two adults to commit to restrain their sexual desires and tendencies, to give up, to sacrifice, a significant portion of their own desires, natural ones, for the welfare of the next generation.

Marriage isn't just about love, it's about a love that transcends two people, that transcends physical attraction and sex.
