No, they don't need guitars. Basses are also chordal instruments, they also have a different timbre to a guitar, so they actually sound richer then a regular guitar. Rather than think 'why not get a guitar' why not appreciate the versatility of this great instrument a lot of us take the time to practice.

I find matts sound horrible! And on the other hand lincoln has such a great, warm and deep sound. he is the mature player in this setting though he has not the technique of matt.
